ITIL Intermediate Advise

You have passed the ITIL Foundation exam. There are now several steps you can take. If you want to specialize, the ITIL Intermediate exams are the most logical next step.

Why take an exam?

Continuing your education - following training, passing exams, earning certificates - is the key to better job opportunities and/or a higher salary. In IT the more certificates you have, the better your chances of earning a higher wage: on average, certificates offer a 20% pay boost over a high school diploma.
And research has shown that 63% of hiring managers feel that certified professionals are more productive then their non-certified peers and are therefore inclined to hire the job applicant with the certificate. Certification demonstrates your commitment to IT practices. Having certified professionals will boost companies’ credibility within the industry and it will save them money in support costs.

Why take an ITIL Intermediate exam?

Obtaining an ITIL Intermediate certificate has a positive impact on your career. About the Intermediate Level

There are nine intermediate exams each with a different focus. They are all industry-recognized qualifications. They build upon the Foundation level and provide in depth knowledge of the processes and the Service lifecycle. The level is divided into two streams: The Lifecycle Stream and The Capability Stream.

The ITIL Lifecycle stream

(5 modules, 3 credits each)

The ITIL Capability Stream

(4 modules, 4 credits each)

This stream approaches ITIL from the management perspective of an organization. These modules focus on executing and implementing a complete stage of the Service Lifecycle.
In general, the modules in this stream may be more suited to those with managerial responsibility looking at the overall IT Service Management picture.
The Capability modules focus on the technical and hands-on approach. They are more process oriented and provide a deep understanding of the ITIL processes and functions, how they are applied and how they act together.
In general, the modules in this stream are most useful to those who take part, or want to take part, in the day-to-day practical activities described within each of the processes.
